pedras portuguesas

Now that Fashion Rio is over, we can celebrate the best catwalk in town: our "portuguese stone" street pavement.

As Rio has a glamorous past, being the only city in the Americas that was once the capital of an European Kingdom, the colonial architecture and Portuguese pavement are still the strongest icons of our identity. In Portuguese, Calçada Portuguesa is the traditional paving used in most pedestrian areas (in Portugal and old colonies). An exhibition took place at Pier Maua during Rio's Fashion week, showing images of typical patterns of our streets, by Brazilian photographer Bruno Veiga.
